Ken and Annabelle McCunnCrossmatch Recruitment was opened on 8 May 1989 by Annabelle McCunn and is still owned and managed by her and husband, Ken.  Both Annabelle and Ken had extensive recruitment backgrounds before setting up Crossmatch.

Annabelle had previously been the area manager for Scotland and Northern Ireland for another agency.  Ken, who joined her a year later in 1990, had been running the Edinburgh office of a national recruitment advertising agency, having set up that branch 5 years earlier.

Crossmatch Recruitment opened for business on the 8th of May 1989 in an office over-looking Haymarket in the west end of Edinburgh.  In September 1996, the company moved to larger, more central accommodation, at 91 Rose Street, where it remained for the next 20 years. In 2016, when our lease expired, we took the opportunity we moved a few hundred yards along the road to our current offices, adjacent to the Assembly Tooms, at 34/36 Rose Street North Lane.

For Ken and Annabelle, setting up Crossmatch was never primarily about making money.  Rather, it was the thrill of creating a company culture and a service to clients and candidates that was unique and distinct.  They wanted to put into practice their belief that treating people decently, internally and externally, was not incompatible with success - quite the reverse in fact.  And they believed it was possible for people to have some fun while they were at it.  For more about what makes us tick, see the philosophy page.

They have always believed strongly that any success the business enjoys cannot be achieved without people, which is why training and development has always been high on the agenda.  In 1998, Crossmatch achieved Investors in People in recognition of that, and was subsequently re-assessed successfully in 2001, 2004 and 2007.

We have been members of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) since we began and, in 2000, Annabelle was made a Fellow of the REC.  The company is still owned and managed by Annabelle and Ken, who are as deeply committed as ever to the original values on which the company was founded.
